What SET hopes to accomplish at BHS:
* Level the playing field, so everyone can see eye-to-eye.
* Develop equal opportunities for all students to learn and belong
* Works towards reducing feelings of superiority and inferiority among students
* Create more opportunities for students and teachers to work together
* Help teachers and students to understand each others' perspectives
BHS SET Mission Statement:
The Mission of the Student Equity Team is:
To promote equity at Ballard High School;
to bring attention to prejudice, discrimination, and bigotry in our school; and
to encourage change.
Current Activity:
Creating & placing Equity Boxes in all LA classrooms and in the Library, Counseling Office, Main Office and Activities Center. Forms will be available near the boxes to guide students in writing down ideas or examples of inequity that need to be addressed at BHS, as well as positive examples of incidents or events that reflect equity. Positive examples will be posted on an Equity Wall.
Selling bracelets & T-shirts at the DECA store to raise money for bringing in guest speakers and film screenings, and for training the SET in self-awareness, to facilitate discussions about equity.
